About Us

The Charlottesville Women’s Choir (CWC) started in 1984 with just four members.  More than thirty years later, the CWC had grown to over 40 members… until the pandemic hit and we were unable to sing together for more than two years.  In 2022, we began to regroup but with a much smaller number.  We are ready to grow again in 2024.

While CWC has historically been a self-directed choir, we will begin the 2024-25 season under the direction of the fabulous and talented Jennifer Tal whom we have hired as our professional teacher and director. We will, however, still have opportunity for members of the choir to volunteer their own talents to teach or direct songs.  The leadership and business is managed by volunteers in the choir.

CWC rehearses on Monday evenings from September through May, 6:30–8:00 p.m., at Sojourners Church in Charlottesville.

The Choir will continue its tradition of performing an annual spring concert in early June.  CWC also sings at various community events and venues throughout the year such as the SHE Vigil, the International Day of Peace, the Pride Festival, and the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women.

In the past, our annual concert has been a fundraiser for a worthy local cause. We hope to bring that tradition back for our next concert.  Past beneficiaries of our Spring concerts have included:

Walker Upper Elementary School Choir
SHE [Shelter for Help in Emergency]
SARA [Sexual Abuse Resource Center]
The Courage Fund of the Quality Community Council
Barrett Early Learning Center
Skyline Girl Scouts
Women Build – Habitat for Humanity
Urban Agricultural Collective
The Haven
Cale Elementary School Dual-Language Immersion Program
Virginia Organizing
Service Dogs of Virginia
